I´m off to Amsterdam tomorrow for New Year´s and will take some time off.
2011 has been crazy, full of excitement and I know that 2012 will be amazing, so I take this chance to wish you all a fabulous New Year´s and take care!
The song is dedicated to Nele, who said that something can come from this track! Thank you, Nele! :)
I visited a concert this week - Tehnoloogiline Päike (transl Technological Sun) performed together with a symphony orchestra and a choir in one of Tallinn´s retro cinema called Kosmos. It was amazing! I think it was my best concertexperience so far! They combined atmosphericmusic with powerful symphony orchestra and put a cherry on top with the choir. The result was unbelievable. The nearest concert experience was this summer´s Royksöpp live in Positivus, but still I think Tehnoloogiline Päike was better!
Enjoy their hit single from the second album, but I have to say - actually the whole album is great and worth listening to!
The Weeknd made a cover to disco king Michael Jackson´s song Dirty Diana.
Actually I´m quite surprised how the tunes of Weeknd and Jackson converge. But listen and decide yourself :)
Christmas is coming. Are you missing the white christmas as well? I don´t know how can one have a christmas feeling without the snow. Even the christmas lights are quite rare in Tallinn this winter. Feels more like a long fall. But, if you´re missing snow too, type "let it snow" to google search. Maybe it´ll help, or at least make you smile for a second :)
But the song, Will Young is all over the radio stations at the moment, but it´s the first one from him I do like. Usually I don´t post pop music, because first of all I´m not a big fan and secondly you most probably have heard them from the radio already.
But why this? It may sound a bit cheesy, but I think the song has something magical in it :)
Estonian song (transl "Oh So Good") which has been on repeat since Friday when we listened to the song with my most special buddy all night long. It really works like a real mantra!
It was a hell of a week. Tonight it´s Brookes Brothers playing in Tallinn (actually almost in the neighbour building to my apartment) and time to relax a bit. Tomorrow we will have a christmas theme party and I will go as Sandy from Grease. So the weekend will be full of entertainment and I don´t complain :)
Song recommendation for you for the weekend
Enjoy the weekend! (my recommendation - relax and enjoy good music with good company!)
Tonight everything is about Jamie Woon, because in 3 hours he will be on stage in Tallinn!
And I´ll do my best to fight my fever and to get the most of it! I know a lot of my friends are coming, but if you´re not able to, enjoy my favourite songs here :)
The most special one, "Shoulda"
My second favourite "Street"
"Lady Luck" with an amazing choreography video
"Night Air", of course
And two amazing remixes, which unfortunately I think won´t be played tonight.
They actually are the only remixes I like from or with Jamie, all the others just seem to ruin the original songs.
It´s getting really hip-hoppy here, don´t ask, I don´t know why. They just keep coming to my way. Hope you enjoy them too.
I have a big event tonight to organise, so if you´re reading this, I hope you keep your fingers crossed for me so that everything will go fabulously. I´m really holding my breath at the moment.
Until next time!
Ohh, this is sooo good! It has been a long time since I last time really fell in love with this kind of a dnb track.
The singer Skin is a former lead-singer of Skunk Anansie and oh, I was a biiiiiig fan back in the days.
As a huge fan of Skunk Anansie I have to add my favourite song for them as well.
Mattafix was great. I was really sad when I heard that they split, but the good thing is Marlon just released his first solo album and you can recognize the magnificent tune of Mattafix.
The song that has conquered all Estonia´s radio stations.
Thank you, Kristjan, for sharing this track!
Psst! Kristjan is my first (and best melomaniac) friend who decided to make his own music blog couple of weeks ago. He is like a walking music library with a great taste of music. Really, you couldn´t even imagine. So, definitely go and check out his blog.
I´m not the biggest fan of autumn. Everything seems so grey and dull outside and I can´t remember when was the last day when it didn´t rain. All I wanna do these days is just stay home and have a cup of warm tea. If you´re doing the same thing, then listen to the next track. It fits perfectly.
A lot of work to do and this calming piece keeps me focused.
I really love my job and I enjoy the moments when I can just work by myself and listen to a good new music.
Tomorrow we are having our annual summer closing party in Estonia´s summer capital Pärnu. So as the last "summer song" enjoy this. Song full of summer breeze and lightness.
When I posted the first song from The Weeknd I already said that I wanna look into their creation more. It took me a long time (it´s summer, right), but today I finally took the time and it was pure quality.
Two of my favourite instrumental pieces. The first one has been my favourite for 5-6 years I think. The second one is my recent favourite. Just look at the video and listen to the song. Pure harmony.
We have an amazing music festival in Baltics called Positivus. It was the fifth one this year, but my first time to visit. I couldn´t be there on the first day, but I did my best on the second. I went there mainly for three reasons - OK GO!, Mark Ronson and the one and only Royksöpp!
I have 3 videos for you, one from each of them. But before you press the play button, please turn down the volume, because we filmed it with a mobile and the sound is just so terrible. Look at the screens on both sides of the stage to get a overview of the people and the artists.
But I have to say, it was amazing. It took place in the seaside town of Salacgriva, in the northern Latvia. 7 stages (one of them straight on the beach), more than 20 000 people and music from jazz to drum&bass.
I decided to make it as an annual event for me and if you haven´t been there, then don´t miss the next years festival.
The videos now. The first one OK GO!
Mark Ronson
Mark Ronson surprised me a lot. They performed with The Business Intl and also he played a DJ set. He played Martin Solveig - Hello, M.I.A - Paper Planes, his own song Bang Bang Bang but with a dubstep twist etc. He did a great job. It was 8PM and I still wanted to dance in the daylight like there is no tomorrow, the music was just so goood.
Royksöpp - What else is there
Royksöpp was amazing. The highlight of my summer for sure. Look at the screens on both sides of the stage, the costumes, the crowd.
PS! Yes, the girl with the stripes in the video is me (:
Oh! So beautiful! Just wait until the song starts, while listening it keeps getting better and better and better
Psst! I have sceduled many posts for you guys for the next week (one of them is a video review from the amazing Positivus festival I visited two weeks ago). So stay tuned!
This song goes to two guys, who are just the biggest fans of this song. And when they start to sing along and dance, it´s hilarious (very cool hilarious :)
But this is one very talented Estonian band. If you have a chance to see them play live, don´t miss it!
Thank you, Tim, for recommending this song! I have to say I like when some of my friends know my taste of music so well, that they always know what I like. Tim nailed it again.
I went through my posts and for my surprise found that I had never published this song. It is definitely worth sharing. Really energetic and engages in seconds. Definitely a good song when you´re going out in the evening.
I know a lot of people relate songs to some special moments and/or persons. When I was younger, I did the same, but recently it has become quite rare. But this song reminds me one special person. We fell in love with that song together and during last month we have listened to it over and over again.
I think Fatboy Slim aka Norman Quentin Cook is a genius. You just have to be when you produce this kind of tunes.
I´ll share 3 of my recent favourites with you. PS! If you´re at home, going to bed, then don´t press play. Everytime I listen to them, I just wanna dance. Dance, dance, dance.
It´s good to be back :) I already missed my blog! Summer is so good in Estonia at the moment and it is really hard to stay inside. I rarely open my computer these days. After spending all day in the office all I wanna do after work is go out and spend some time with my friends. It´s a pity we don´t have access to youtube at work (big corporate rules), it would make it much more easier to make quick posts, because I have a lot of music waiting for you in my favourites.
But! As I said in my last post, this is the 200th post in this blog and I thought that I would like to take a look back and give you an overview of my favourite ones - songs that have been the most special to me during this time. I secretly made this blog in October 2010. It was closed for 2 months. I collected music, added some of my favourites and the biggest issue was with the design. It took me a long time to finally figure out what to do with that. I knew that the templates blogger offers, aren´t for me. One night I opened my Illustrator and made the header to the blog. The same one I´m using right now as well. Two days after that I opened it and posted it for first time to my Facebook profile. The welcome was warmer than I would have ever guessed. Thank you for that!
I really wanted to select 10 of my favourite ones, but as always, it was too complicated and I ended up with 12 song. PS! They are in random order.
1. Hot Chip - I feel better
It was the first song in this blog and it was for a reason. It was my favourite one for months. I played it over and over again and it was just so magical every time.
2. Florence + The Machine - Cosmic Love
Florence was one of my favourite artists in 2010 and it all began with this song. There is something so powerful in it and it can really take me away.
3. Beck and Bat For Lashes - Let's Get Lost
It was autumn 2010. "Let´s Get Lost" and the previous "Cosmic Love" were like a dynamic duo for me.
4. DJ Fresh - Gold Dust
Love from the first beat. The song just gets me going every time.
5. The XX - Heart Skipped a Beat
My favourite one from The XX. There´s a strange thing with this one. In Oct, Nov 2010 I played it a lot and now, few weeks ago, I rediscovered it and it´s like magic. All I wanna do is listen to that song. I have already played it 3 times this morning and I can´t get enough.
6. Bedouin Soundclash - Brutal Hearts (feat. Coeur De Pirate)
My Sis discovered it and posted to my Facebook wall. First days I just listened and listened and walked around clapping my hands. Strange, huh. But don´t blame me, blame the song, it´s just so fantastic. Listen to it and let me know after you have discovered yourself walking around and clapping your hands with a stupid smile on your face :))
7. Drapht - Rapunzel
I have a friend who always knows the best reggae related music. Oh, we have had the most fun with this song. It always reveals the dancing maniacs in us.
8. Nufrequency ft Shara Nelson - Go That Deep
When someone would ask me which is my favourite song of all time, I would say this one.
I have the most special memories with that song. All the quiet nights, when everybody were already sleeping and I took time to write poetry and think my own thoughts with a warm cup of tea. These nights were really amazing.
9. OneRepublic - Good Life
This song always reminds me that Life Is Good. I know that, but a piece of music always makes these thoughts and moments perfect.
10. Adele - Rolling In The Deep (Jamie xx Shuffle)
I think you have already noticed that I think Adele is just perfect! And Jamie from The XX makes always the greatest remixes. When they two collaborate, it has to be magic!
11. Clare Maguire - The Last Dance (Chase & Status Remix)
I wanted to add the original one to the list as well, but it was complicated enough to select only 10 (yes, I know, it still ended up with 12). But I really like them both. Clare Maguire is something like Hot Chip for me. Something special, something magical. Always gets me going.
12. Antony & The Johnsons - Another World [S.I.N BOOTLEG]
When one acquaintance introduced me this piece of music, she said that it´s addictive. And it is. It´s just so beautiful. The beat in the back is sooooooo good. I really love the song.
I hope you like the songs and if you have any thoughts regarding the posts (what music are you fond of and like to find here more ofter, or would you like more text with the posts etc), the feedback is always very welcome.
As I´m off to Spain tomorrow, it´ll be quite quiet here for some time. But! The next post will be a bit more special, because it will be 200th post. I can´t believe myself that with only 6 month that much good music has already gathered here :)
The girl everyone is crazy for and I have to admit, she knows how to make drum in a way that everybody loves it - the ones who listen it every day and the ones who ordinary doesn´t even like it.
After few warm days the autumn came to town. Yes, I know, the rain and wearing a warm coat isn´t my first choice as well. Still, music keeps the mood up until sun decides to come back (please, make it fast!). Piece of music that keeps me going.
We skipped spring this year in Estonia and the summer is in town (jei!). +20C outside is just so enjoyable! Im off to Spain in few weeks (can´t wait!) and I started to collect (rediscover) all the summer theme songs and I want to share with you my fav one. If you have any summer song recommendations, please share! I´d love to hear them :)
"Make a Scene is the upcoming fourth studio album from English singer/songwriter Sophie Ellis-Bextor, set for release in Russia on April 18, 2011. It is her first studio album since 2007's Trip the Light Fantastic." Wiki
So, there hasn´t been any dubstep related songs recently. I´ll make it up! Here is a piece which I first thought was dubstep, on a second thought I realized that there is also a cup of drum and bass in it. After that smarter people told me that yes, there is a genre nowadays called dubdrum. Who would have guessed, right.
For a while now I have been looking something from the music world that is mind-blowing good. I have captured a lot of good music, but a piece of music with that x-factor is missing. Do you have a song you really enjoy? Please, share! And dont draw any lines in genres - from hip-hop to electronic and classic to rock - everything is welcome. The world of music is too good to limit ourselves by drawing the lines, right :)
So please, leave a link or the name of the song in the comments, good music is for sharing :) And if I post the piece, I promise, I´ll leave a credit!
I have to admit, I really like muusikamaagia´s map overlay. With less than 3 months from the start, we have visitors from 28 countries. Hope we can get someone from Africa as well :) Really good to see you here, keep on coming and leave your feedback - it´s really appreciated :)
I like the nice and easy side of London Electricity. Okay, "All Hell Is Breaking Loose" is also a hell of a good one. But this new masterpiece is exactly my cup of tea.
A bit similar to the earlier one, this is my all-time favourite from LE guys.
Music lovers community called WAYF (We are your friends) wished a good spring with that song and I´ll join them. It´s a really nice piece of music. Check out their Facebook here.
Tonight it´s all about Jamie Woon. I knew one song from the artist before, the Wayfaring Stranger (collaboration with Burial), but he is full of surprise I tell you.
Firstly, my first Jamie Woon´s song - Wayfaring Stranger with Burial. It is a bit different from the next ones as it is more like a dubstep masterpiece, but take a moment and listen.
Now the Lady Luck and Night Air. A bit smoother and maybe a bit more ladies cup of teas.
I heard it couple of times from the radio (yes, the place you rarely find good new music) and I knew that I have to find out what song is it.. and now, after listening it for a x number of times, Im so attached I cant get enough.
Jah, just!
The XX - Crystalised (Dark Sky Remix)
Drake Fireworks (deadboy slo mo house edit)
Andreya Triana - A Town Called Obsolete (Mala Remix)
